Ottawa Renegades’ president Lonie Glieberman announced he’s quitting yesterday. Some observers believe his Dad probably pushed him out, based on the findings of his consultants, John Lisowski and Phil Kershaw. So I prefer to think of it as more of a resigsmissal, a word I made up (patent pending) just now to tackle these types of situations. Go ahead. Google it. It's mine. My little contribution to the erosion of the english language. If bootylicious can make it into Webster's dictionary, then surely resigsmissal has a shot.
I think it’s cute that the consultants who recommended that Lon-Dog be resigsmissed are actually being considered for the vacancy they helped create. Now that’s objectivity. No conflict of interest there. It’s just adorable.
This week, head coach John Jenkins called the actions of the consultants “evil”. Evil, I tells ya! I also find that high moral ground cute, given that Jenkins was this team’s chief scout last year. While doing that job, or not doing it, he was apparently told he’s next in line to be head coach. Hmmm. Let’s check the flow chart of that situation. Bad scouting=Team sucking=Head coach fired=Me becoming head coach. Boo-ya!
More of that adorable conflict of interest.
We had almost 1900 people vote today on the main page of the site you’re on now. 2 per cent called Lonie’s resigsmissal a mistake. Six per cent said the team will be fine now. 44 per cent said it was a good start but more changes are needed. Worst of all, 46 per cent said they don’t care.
Meanwhile, the front office is in shambles. GM Forrest Gregg described the front office in fighting by saying, “This is War.” Actually, the exact quote was, “This is, um…..uh…what’s that word? Come on. You know…open conflict carried on between nations or parties. Damn. This is uh…Oh yeah! This is Kerry Joseph! No, wait. Got it! This is war. Heh, heh. FIGJAM.”
Gregg and Jenkins in one corner. Lisowski and Kershaw in the other. Lonie’s dad refereeing the whole mess, missing a bunch of cheap shots while his back is turned. This is much better than anything pro wrestling can offer.
Here’s hoping Bernie Glieberman can make the right decisions between now and the opening of training camp. I think I would probably roll the bones with Jenkins for a year and unload the rest of them.
Ottawa is the best CFL market in Canada. Where else would all this be tolerated for so very, very long? If fans could say one thing to this team right now, they’d likely quote an Oscar hopeful this Sunday, “I wish I knew how to quit you.”
