The Senators playoff motto last year was “Rev Up the Red.” I even tailored my annual Senator playoff song to support the campaign. This year there’s no revving up required, which is good. I don’t care much for the revving. Never have. Sounds like work. This year’s motto is simply, “Be Red.”
For starters, it doesn't sound like I need to be quite so ambitious in my redness. I just have to, you know, be red. Hey, wait. Are they implying I’m not red enough? Actually, I think they’re saying I’m not red at all. They apparently need me to start being red. Not my current colour, whatever that is. If they said, “Continue to be red,” I’d feel like I was on board. Now? “Be Red” sounds like an instruction. An order. That's outright colourism.
Maybe I'm off base here. Maybe they want me to be a guy named Red. To be on the safe side, I have briefly kicked Red Allen out of his studio on our sister station Majic 100. Now I’m being Red. Honestly, between you and me, I wouldn’t ask Red to be Red. It’ll make him sad to think you haven’t noticed his past attempts to be Red. Red’s been Red his whole life.
Let’s say I do convert. I go ahead and cave to the Sens’ demands for redness. It’s a good bet the Sens play New Jersey in the first round. What then? The Devils are also red. Do I stop being red for Senator road games? Please advise. I can only say I’ll try to be as red as I can. That's just going to have be good enough for you people.
So, until April 11th, be red and prosper.
