Senator Harbingers

My most recent blog entry outlined the various reasons why I’m antsy about the Senators heading into the playoffs. Some of you expressed concern over that, as if the Sens had no history of playoff disappointment.

Good for you. I like your moxy. Let’s roll with that. Let’s try and talk ourselves into why it will end well this year with a check on the harbingers. I’m big on harbingers.

Harbinger #1 – After a tough start, the Sens enter the playoffs blazing hot. Since December 23rd, the Sens are 28-4-7. 63 out of a possible 76 points.

Harbinger#2 – The Sens have one of the best goalies in the NHL. Among the 21 goalies who’ve started 40 games or more, Emery is third in save percentage, trailing only Bob Luongo and Martin Brodeur.

Harbinger#3 – Experience. Sometimes past heartbreaks serve you well. It just seems to have taken the Sens a little longer to learn their lessons. You get enough experience saying, “If only we hadn’t done that,” you see playoff pitfalls before they happen.

Harbinger#4 – This one is a little sketchy. The Sens are just due. Due for a couple of playoff breaks. They haven’t been blessed with many in the last 10 years.

There. Harbingers. I feel much better. Let’s do this!
