The Ottawa Senators are one win away from the NHL Conference Finals, their second such appearance in four seasons. The Senators held off the Devils 3-2 last night to grab a 3-1 series lead. The Senators have effectively won all three games by one goal (empty netter in Game 3)and in each game future hall of famer Martin Brodeur has had moments to forget. In game one, Brodeur allowed soft goals by Joe Corvo and Wade Redden. In Game 3, I believe he embellished the light collision with Mike Fisher, leaving him off balance just long enough for Tom Preissing to loft one in over his shoulder. And in Game 4 last night, Dany Heatley’s bad angle goal was unacceptably horrible,
Brodeur scurried to deflect blame. His immediate reaction was to stare down his defenceman. Replays showed the defenceman hadn’t screened him so Brodeur must have felt the puck had deflected in off his teammate. It didn’t. After the game, he lashed out on the opposing goalie. Brodeur said, “We finally proved if we shoot pucks at Ray Emery, he doesn't look too good."
Uh-huh.
You got lit up, Martin. Be the hall of famer you are and deal with it. Pitchers who give up 5 home runs don’t rip the other team’s winning pitcher. They man up and own it. You’re not deflecting blame from yourself. You’re not helping your team win. You’re further unifying the Senators and making yourself look like a baby in the process.
The mission is simple. On Saturday night, the Sens hope to drive a stake through the Devils hearts and completely ruin Brodeur’s 35th birthday party on Sunday.

On the gossip front, Mike Comrie was seen by several people leaving the players parking lot with Elisha Cuthbert last night. If there’s something there, it’s just another reason to respect Comrie right now. It would also be interesting if both the Sens and Rangers advance. Last we checked, Cuthbert and Ranger pest Sean Avery were living together. Hmmm.
Cuthbert is pictured here at a recent Ranger game, looking the way she did last night. I’m not sure that haircut belongs on anyone under the age of 40.

The good news for Comrie? It wasn't that long ago that this bikini picture was taken. Good for you, Mike. Good for you. Allegedly.

Congratulations to our leaders for solving every single problem in Canada. I have to assume that’s what’s happened. It’s the only way you could justify spending one second of time on the Shane Doan affair. Hockey Canada is being called to the mat today by a Commons committee to explain why they chose Doan as captain. Seriously. Do you people have any sense of priority?

You have all this stuff licked, do ya? Our roof is leaking while our politicians are in the backyard giggling, burning flies with a magnifying glass.
