Ottawa's Blogging Controversy

There are many Senators fans who maintain Martin Gerber is a better goalie when he isn’t being pushed. When Cam Ward or Ray Emery threatened his role as the ace, some believe that has messed with his head and his success.

Well, as bloggers go, I am the anti-Gerber.

Stuntman Stu’s blog on this site is a plucky effort but he’s obviously the blogger backup here, the Darren Madeley to my Craig Billington. This is reflected in my blog’s relative inacvitity of late. When not pushed, I obviously become a slack arse. The organization hasn't been happy with me for a long time so they've quietly made a blog move. It was a shock but I should have seen it coming.

They’ve brought in my ol’ pal Dean Brown to be a Don Beaupre to my Billington. He'll be blogging about Sens issues from the road. I have a lot of respect for his game but, of course, I’m offended by this. My nose is completely out of joint. I’ve been the starting blogger here since day one. I know I’m slumping right now. I’ve heard the calls to our talk shows. I’ve heard the emails. The whispers.

But I deserve better than this. I mean, come on! This blog has received 350 thousand hits. I am the hittingest blogger in Team history (if winningest is a word then so is hittingest). I guess blogging really is a “what have you done for me lately” kind of business. I realize Dean is one of the top bloggin prospects out there but still unproven. Will he deliver? Or will he, like the Stus, the Versages, the Buzzes (Oranges at Halftime? What the f*** was that?) and the many others who’ve challenged my crown before, succumb to the fatigue of the blog grind and retire? You can bet the organization will then come crawling back to me, hat in hand, looking for me to resume my role as their star blogger.

For now, it’s a platoon situation. The organization is counting on me, the blog veteran, to act as Dean’s mentor. To show him the ropes. To groom him as our blogger of the future. Being the classy veteran I am, I will do that. There is no “I” in Team 1200. Except for Stu. But I will quietly escalate my blog game. This move has re-ignited my blog fire. I will prove them wrong.

I will show them the solution to their blogging issues was right here all along. Yes. I'll show them, I'll show them all. (Insert villianous maniacal laughter here).
