You may recall how the small community of Bathurst New Brunswick was rocked last January by a terrible traffic accident. Seven members of the Bathhurst high school basketball team and the wife of the team's coach were killed when their 12-seat van lost control and slammed head-on into a transport truck on an icy road. The accident happened on a straight stretch of road only minutes from Bathurst, where the teens' parents were waiting to pick them up at a local fast-food restaurant.Eventually, after extensive grieving, the need for a return to normalcy crept in. After much debate, they decided to go ahead with the basketball program this season. On Saturday they capped it off, honouring their fallen friends and teammates with a provincial championship.
