Legend Finally Speaks

It’s been thought now for many weeks that there must be some hidden reason why Ottawa Senators Legend Dany Heatley would demand to be traded out of Ottawa. After all, when you make the kind of money He did last season, there’s no way you’d want out, not for the petty reason He’d been giving. I now believe there was no hidden reason. Legend said He felt like His role had diminished with the club so He asked for a trade.

I believe Him now. 100 per cent. This is really how Legend’s mind is working.

We originally thought there must be another angle because we thought this twit had some humility. We thought He was at least loosely tethered to reality. The news conferences clearly revealed He isn’t. He’s a Legend who must never be second guessed and you’re a moron if you think otherwise.

Reporters reminded Him yesterday the Edmonton Oilers would have given Him whatever role He wanted. Legend scoffed at that. He wanted more than one option, claiming He knows there are other teams interested out there. You know what that’s called, Legend? It’s a little thing called unrestricted free agency. You can have it in July of 2014. In the meantime, you’ll have to suffer along with 35 million dollars over the next 5 years. Poor, poor Legend. Diminished role, no options. Let’s organize a telethon.

Legend is all wrong, of course. His role hasn’t diminished in the last 2 years in any way. He was fourth among all NHL forwards in even strength ice time last season. He was 13th in the NHL in power play ice time, ahead of guys like Vincent Lecavalier, Daniel Alfredsson, Ryan Getzlaf, Rick Nash and Marc Savard.

So what is Legend really talking about?

When He says He wants out because His role has diminished, He’s referring to his role as a hockey Legend who has never been and must never be second guessed or criticized, particularly by a rookie coach Legend never heard of. Legend is a product of the god like status we bestow great Canadian hockey players. Thankfully, most don’t let it go entirely to their heads like Legend. It’s very possible that Cory Clouston is the first hockey coach ever who didn’t suck up to this punk.

Clouston, taking over a bad hockey team, challenged all his players to be better, to work harder. Play for the name on the front of the jersey, not the back. Those who didn’t buy in could expect problems. No one on a bad team was exempt. Legend thought that was a good idea, certain Clouston couldn’t be talking about Him. Well, Legend, he was.

If you’re going to accept more money than Alex Ovechkin did last year, the expectations are going to be high. By that standard, on a salary versus productivity level, Legend was average at best last season. Legend is soft. He rarely backchecked, rarely did anything physical, finished minus 11 and pretty much cruised around like a table top hockey figure, waiting for someone to feed him a one timer. Legend finished 33rd in the NHL in scoring. Ex- Senator Todd White outscored him last season.

Legend is having what psychologists call a text book suck fit. He’s been a Legend since Pee Wee and He will not tolerate criticism from anyone. He’ll go off to a city where he is appreciated. Legend thinks there are plenty of places that want him right now, which implies that he thinks Bryan Murray isn’t really trying to trade him. Only a truly delusional Legend, whose priorities are insanely out of whack, would believe that. Yes, Murray is going to hold the Senators hostage so he can punish You. Come on, Legend, wake up.

I now want Legend gone. Legend’s presence in that room this season will be far more obnoxious than if Ray Emery had slept through practice 50 days in a row. While there was never any hidden reason why Legend wanted out, I think he may have answered another ongoing hidden mystery. I think Legend was one of the unsung reasons for this team’s demise the last two seasons.
